Our McKinley Springs Syrah was the only wine we made in our inaugral vintage. The wine is co-fermented with Viognier which is the tradition in the Northern Valley appellation of Cote Rotie.  It also contains a small amount of Mourvedre. This Syrah has aromas of violets, dark fruit and spice. Deep and dark, the wine boasts the complexity that Syrah can produce in Washington. This Syrah is wonderfully balanced with acidity and medium tannins.

BLEND: 91% Syrah, 5% Viognier, 4% Mourvedre

APPELLATION: Horse Heaven Hills

VINEYARDS: McKinley Springs

ALCOHOL: 15.7%

Food Pairings

Syrah is a great wine to pair with roasted and grilled meats like deer, elk, beef and game fowl.  Pork spare ribs with barbecue sauce and rosemary-crusted lamb tenderloin with red wine jus is a perfect match for this Syrah.

McKinley Springs: Deep in the Horse Heaven Hills, McKinley Springs was first planted in wine grapes in 1995, where the Andrews Family has been farming for 3 generations. The soils are deep sandy loams on top of broken basalt and are very well suited to the heat loving Rhone varietal grapes. Robert Ramsay Cellars has been working with Rob Andrews and McKinley Springs since before 2005, where we source Syrah, Mourvedre, and Cinsault.

Tasting Notes

A classic warm Washington vintage produced a McKinley Springs Syrah that is true to its historical form. Blueberry, bacon and smoky leather mixed with the smell of forest floor, all dark and deep. Take it hunting or just enjoy it with the results.
